Please be reminded that this coming new Semester, the students must take back their belongings that have been kept in the store room during 4-month break holiday.

The time to collect the items that kept in the store room in all villages as stated below:

Hence, after contacted our residential village's manager- Mr Wan, he agreed to change the room registration date to 25th January (Wednesday). For those who are returning late, you may register on 26th or 27th Jan. Students who come early are allowed to register on 21st /22nd Jan.

“Ignorance” Kills the Cat

Greetings!!! With regards to the title highlighted above, It has been worrisome that most of the UTP’s students are confused, or not aware of the roles that RCSU plays as a student body. In this entry, I'll explain and clarify what really is RCSU and what makes us different from other student bodies or management.

RCSU VS RC MANAGEMENT:

What is RCSU? RCSU can be simply put as the medium between students and the RC Management (which students always refer to as block O, or villages’ offices) in handling the welfare of students. In other words, we connect students to RC management. RCSU iS NOT RC MANAGEMENT!!! We are responsible to voice out your opinions to the management, taking care of your welfare, helping out the staffs, but again, we are not the staffs of RC management. So far so clear? You can always refer to us if you have any doubts or are confused.

Is Internet under RCSU Responsibility?

NO. Anything related to internet is not under RCSU responsibility. In fact, ITMS of UTP is in charge of it.

What Makes RCSU Different From MPP?

I believe that everyone knows the answer to this question. Anything within the residential college, except for internet is under the responsibility of RCSU. Example, broken washing machine or vending machine, problems with cafe, etc. Anything else will be the responsibility of MPP.

Fellow VS Supervisor:

Most of the students are still confused between fellow and supervisor. Supervisor is the staff that works at your village’s office. You always refer to them during hostel registration, or lost your key during office hours. Meanwhile, fellow is usually a lecturer, or a staff of UTP Management like IRC, JPSP, etc. You can always refer to fellow if you have any health problems or lost your key after the office hours.

Eduquest? Educamp?

Yes, aside from the different spellings – ‘quest’ and ‘camp’, these two ‘Edu’s’ also serve two different purposes. Eduquest is held every semesters to search for the PETRONAS scholars- to- be, while Educamp is conducted for the intake of future UTP students.

Well, basically those are the frequently confused terms. Please, never hesitate to refer to us if you have any questions or doubts. Remember, we are here for you.

Water Disruption Throughout UTP Campus

We have been informed by the Lembaga Air Perak (LAP) that there will be water disruption throughout UTP campus from today until tomorrow (12 - 13 April 2011).

This is due to LAP water pumping station at Kg Senin, Parit which supplying water to UTP is facing major mechanical breakdown.

We will working closely with LAP Perak Tengah to provide water tanker for our students in the campus during this period.

Twinning College 2011: Perlis Darul Sunnah

On the 19th and 20th February of 2011, UTPRCSU went to Perlis for Twinning College

program. This time, we went to Universiti Malaysia Perlis, better known as UniMAP.

As we arrived there, we were greeted warmly by the Majlis Penghuni Kolej Kediaman

(MPKK). MPKK UniMAP is more or less like RCSU. They take care of the student’s

welfare and help the university management in terms of residential college. MPKK

UniMAP is lead by Syed Muhammad Nazir, the current YDP (president).

Some differences between UTPRCSU and MPKK UniMAP:

• Members selection are more on voluntary basis compared to selection through

interviews

• Each residential area (also known as ‘Village’ in UTP) has its own MPKK HQ /

student center

• MPKK UniMAP members are awarded with the ‘discount’ of the hostel's fee every semester

• Large amount of members due to wide area of residential village

Compared to the centralized village system in UTP, residential area for UniMAP students

are separated far from each other. They have 9 residential areas in total, named after

Malaysia great leaders and public figures, separated across the state of Perlis. So, their

tasks are quite challenging due to the separation of the residential area. During the

visit, we were located at the Kolej Kediaman F also known as Kolej Kediaman Tun

Ghafar Baba.

On the first night there, an opening ceremony was held. We were welcomed by En

Ismail bin Ibrahim, Penolong Pengetua Kolej Kediaman Tun Ghafar Baba. After the

ceremony, ice breaking and sharing session were conducted between UTPRCSU and

MPKK UniMAP.

On the second day, we took a tour around the hostel and the other 8 residential areas.

It was quite a challenge for UniMAP students to go class since they still doesn’t have

a centralized academic complex. Plus, time taken to go to class (by bus) from hostels

will take about 1 hour.

Finally, we were taken to the main campus. The main campus is still on construction,

but once it is finished, it will be the center for academic session in UniMAP. Up until

now, only two courses are conducted at the main campus.

UniMAP is a great place and the students there are very friendly. We would like to

thank all the members of MPKK UniMAP for a warm welcome towards us. We hope

that the bond created among UTPRCSU and MPKK UniMAP members during this visit will lasts forever.

Please keep in mind that official hostel registration for Jan 2011 will begin on 17th January 2011. Students may register at the office of their respective village. For students staying at Village 1 and Village 2, you may register at Block O. Please spread this news to your friends.

Humanitirian Mission

Assalamualaikum and salam sejahtera.

Starting from 5th to 8th of January 2011, several students from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) went to Yogyakarta, Indonesia for "Misi Khas Bantuan Kemanusiaan Gunung Merapi" due to the eruption of Mount Merapi in October 2010. The secretariat composed of combination of students representing their student bodies and clubs, namely Rakan Masjid UTP (RMUTP), Student Representative Council UTP (SRCUTP), Residential College Support Unit UTP (UTPRCSU), Media and Technology Club UTP (MEDTECH), and Hal Ehwal Siswi UTP (HELWIUTP) in collaboration with the Alumni UTP and South East Asian Regional Assembly of Muslim Youth (SARMY).

Up until now, more than 350 000 people have been terrified with the impact of Mount Merapi eruption. It was reported that 353 people died from the disaster, mostly as a result of the poisonous, hot ashes. Transportation and air forces are mostly delayed. More and more people are struggling, trying to face all the fear, trauma, poverty and hardship.

The mission was held after the first mission to help earthquake victims in Padang in the beginning of 2010. The mission was also held to show our concerns towards these victims of the volcano eruption in Yogyakarta. Members of the humanity mission will be in Yogyakarta to deliver donations and financial assistance in the form of food supplies, stationery, Al-quran and building materials to the people there. We are intending to help the people there to build a community center and repair damaged drainage systems. We will also provide motivational programs to help victims overcome the trauma due to the incident.

Things you should know before going back for holidays

Exams are finally over. Hooray! Before going back home, here are some matters that you should take note:

Students must vacate their room in clean condition by December 3rd 2010. Fine will be imposed on the occupants if the room is left uncleaned.
Students are to vacate the rooms by removing their personal belongings and sent them home. Any belongings or personal items left behind will be disposed.
Due to limited space for storing, we will only provide a store for International and Sabah/Sarawak students. Other students are advised to take their belongings home.
The university will not be responsible for any losses or damages of any belongings stored.
Students are not allowed to park their bicycles/motorcycles inside the building (common room and pathways). Please park them at the designated areas.
All room keys must be returned personally to the Residential College Office during office hours. Extended hours for clearance will be on the 27 & 28 November 2010. Please sign your name after returning the keys together with the tag.
A fine of RM20 will be imposed on the students who lost or did not hand in their room keys. Students who lost the keys should pay the fine before going back for holidays. Failed to do so will unable you to register for a place at the residential college next semester.
All students must submit the clearance form before vacating their units. The form can be obtained from the office of residential college.
If any of the equipment or furniture found to be not functioning, not clean or missing, the management will impose a fine on the resident to repair or replace them.
We do not entertain students who requested to stay at the hostel during the semester break/holidays without any concrete reason. Students who have to stay back in the university during the break must get the approval from RC management by filling in the application form (RC-06).
Final year students who wish to stay to work on their FYP must get endorsement from the respective program head. Those who stay will have to pay rental RM40 per week.
International students who are not going back to their respective countries for the holidays must get the endorsement from the International Students Unit.

Happy Aidil Adha to all.

For this year of AidilAdha of 1431H, Residential College Support Unit (RCSU) in collaboration with Rakan Masjid (RM) and Student Representative Council (SRC) had success in making Takbir Raya UTP 2010.

It had done at Masjid An-Nur, Universiti Teknologi Petronas and led by Zaiyinul Ain B Rafit (President of RM), Abdul Muizz B Ismail (President of RCSU) and Mohammad Khairulanam B Azeman (Deputy President of SRC).

Congratulation to all student body of UTP for the great step in producing our own UTP's Takbir Raya. Last but not least, thank you to all individual and parties who are involved either directly or indirectly in making this Takbir Raya UTP 2010.

BEWARE: Snake Spotted!!

On last Saturday (6th November 2010), a student has been admitted to Hospital Batu Gajah after being bitten by MALAYAN PIT VIPER (ULAR KAPAK). This incident happens around 11 p.m. at the fire route behind v5K. However, the student is getting better now.

Hence, it is advised that all students take this seriously and be careful always.

To avoid any accident that could harm yourself, the following steps should be followed strictly:
1) Use bright walk paths which is always used by other people.
2) Always walk in group. NEVER WALK ALONE!!!
3) Ensure that you have saved this number. RAKAN SECURITY: 05 – 3688315.

It is truly hoped that students can stay alert about their own safety and follows the steps listed above strictly.

We, UTPRCSU would like to remind you guys about some of the rules and regulation of the residential college.

You are not allowed to change room once allocated
Be considerate to your roommate and neighbors
No visitors are allowed into the room
Visitors of different gender are strictly not allowed into the room
If you lost your room key, you may be given a replacement key but will be charged for it
Do not hang clothes on the windows or balcony
Use the dustbin provided as you are responsible for the cleanliness of your own room
Keep your door and windows locked especially when leaving the room
Switch off the lights and fan when not in use or leaving the room
Smoking is strictly prohibited
Non-halal product (any pork products and alcoholic drink) is strictly prohibited in the premises
Pets are not allowed in the premises
Students will be charged for any losses/ damaged to UTP properties in the premises

**RC Management had placed green cards at each floor of each block in every village. Please read the card description, understand it and follow the instruction given.

Beware pervert guy in v5 girl block

Recently, there is a serious case regarding the a guy entering a female residential that is in v5. We believe his intention is to steal the ladies undergarments. The ulterior motives behind the case is still unknown. But of course there are still unclear intention and as a precaution measure, we can assume the worst. The guy was trying to enter the female residential twice. On his first attempt during the midnight was believed is failed due to a aware resident shock him out although one of his feet was already in the room. This was happened before the mid term break that was Hari Raya break.

On the 2nd attempt, happened during the 3rd night of the break, was also failed at 11pm. This time was the guards in charge in the village shift their work time and perhaps the guard on duty are on their way. Fortunately, a group of female students who just came back from having their meal found him red handed. The bad thing was, he was already on the 4th floor of v5 K. There was an attempt to catch this perv. Unfortunately, the girls may not have enough courage to deal with him plus, the guy was really quick.

Although there was an action taken by the students to report this matter to the police, the security of UTP didnt allow any outsiders to deal with this matter.

Note*the story above however still under investigation and the truth behind it still classified as a rumor. we have to wait for the university authority to clarify this matter. Hopefully that all of the UTP students please be aware of this matter. Pray that our harmony open-minded environment university didnt spoiled because of this matter.

RCSU and RC management with the collaboration of UTP security will take serious measure regarding this matter.

So, as a precaution measure we hope that all of you please avoid getting near to the other sex residential area.

For your information, you can choose your own roommate. However you can only stay in the block assigned by the management. This is because the vacant block need to undergo maintenance. Returning Internship students will be resided at Village 5 only except for special case (base on request i.e. quite a distance from the respective academic blocks with no transportation).

Application for Final Year Students Staying in Hostel

Already in final year?

Need to stay over in UTP for your final project?

These smart steps may help you :

1. Call v5 office desk, and ask the supervisor in charge when they will start to charge for final year students that stay for their final year project

2. Before the day that all residents are being charged, all the residents should pay the extra fee (for staying during holiday) at the finance department (beside IRC)

3. Submit the receipt that you have got from the finance department to the V5 office

4. Stick the notice that you have got the approval from supervisor from v5 office outside your room door

5. Finally, you can start your final year project calmly, good luck.

RECMO IX Best!!!

Recently, UTPRCSU had conducted an annual event called Residential College Mesra Outreach (RECMO) for the ninth time. This RECMO IX has been held on 26^th of August untill 29^th of August 2010. The programme which being held for 4 days and 3 nights is being organized at the Kampung Redang Punggor , Teluk Intan, one hour and a quarter from UTP.

As for the introduction of this RECMO, this year, RECMO programme will be conducted in Kampung Redang Punggor, Mukim Labu Kubong, Daerah Hilir Perak, Perak. Located at south of Perak, Kampung Redang Punggor have almost 800 people with the area of 6000 acre. It has been founded early 1980’s and has already gone through many development with their main economy activity which is palm oil plantation. The theme for this RECMO IX is BERSATU HATI, MENYULAM BAKTI.

The main objective of this programme is to fulfil our responsibility towards the community, especially to students who are less fortunate by activities such as motivational programme. This programme is the proof that the students of UTP are concerned of the welfare of the people in the community and that we are willing to share our knowledge and experience with the younger citizen outside the circle of UTP. Furthermore, the students of UTP will have the opportunity to improve their communication skills and thus become the better leaders in the future.

RECMO is important as it promotes UTP not only as a leader in technology and education, but also the centre of creativity and innovation. By conducting this programme with the cooperation of the public, it shows that UTP is a multicultural university that accepts the diversity of cultures while not forgetting our own. It is also an indirect way to promote the good name of UTP to the people outside the circle of university. With full commitment and support from all parties, RECMO will be organized successfully and will receive a positive feedback from the targeted group.

Welcoming the Month of Mercy : Ramadan

Fasting....How can you survive?

“You neither eat nor drink the whole day?” Tan asked me.

“Yes. The whole day. But not at night. Only from dawn to sunset”, I replied.

“How can you survive? Can you survive?”, Tan asked again. I smiled.

“Well, it’s not just you. Even Habib Bourguiba, the late President of Tunisia who was also a ‘Muslim’, convinced that fasting is against productivity. You know the history?”, I took my turn asking Tan my question.

“How should I know? Tell me!”, he said.

In 1961, Habib Bourguiba made a controversial statement claiming that fasting should not be observed for it reduces productivity. He then appeared on television with his cabinet, eating and drinking during Ramadhan.

“Why so harsh?”, Tan was shocked.

“I don’t know. Was it out of ignorance or arrogance? Perhaps a combination of both”, I replied.

Even though fasting is there in the name of Lent among Christians, it is always the Muslim’s version that cultivates questions and debates.

In order to understand about the real meaning of fasting, one should agree that it has something to do with our own paradigm and world view. The way we view things; like I always quote, “what you see is what you get”.

VIEWING FASTING IN MANY WAYS
If you see fasting as a way for better diet, you will benefit that from fasting. But fasting will only be a mechanism of improving your diet.

If you see fasting as a way to save your daily expense by breaking your fast daily in the mosque, then you will be able to achieve that. But that’s it. No more than that.

If you see fasting as a way for you to gain reward or ‘pahala’ from Him, then it is a good motive and sound intention. But reward and pahala is something that you can hardly measure in this physical and worldly life. You don’t see someone obese out of pahala. It is something else!

And strangely, the last 10 days of Ramadhan are the most rewarded and full of pahala, but then you’ll see the mosques are empty.

So, what Ramadhan and fasting are all about?

If you see fasting as abstaining one from eating, drinking, having sexual intercourse during the daytime, and reducing the wrongdoings of backbiting what so ever… that is the definition of fasting. But it only explains the mechanism of fasting as ritual.

Let us take a look at the origin of Muslims’s version of fasting. Al-Quran says:

“O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become the people with the quality of Taqwa” (Al-Baqarah 2: 183)

Fasting is a mechanism to achieve Taqwa. You abstain yourself from eating and drinking, in order to achieve Taqwa. How is that?

TAQWA
Taqwa can be defined in many ways. But the conversation between Ubay bin Kaab and Umar al-Khattab was a good summary about the essence of Taqwa. Once, Umar asked Ubay what he knows about Taqwa. Ubay replied by asking him, “Have you walked through thorny path?”

Umar answered, “Yes, indeed”

Ubay then asked him, “What did you do?”

Umar replied, “I tucked up (my garment) and did my best (to avoid thorns)”

Thereupon Ubay said, “That is Taqwa!”

Our life is a journey. Like someone who is driving from a place to another. Throughout the journey, he will meet many road signs that might instruct him to do against his will. He wants to drive at full speed, but a sign says, “No, the limit is only 80km/h”.

He wants to arrive as early as possible but suddenly a red light instructs him to stop and let others move first.

Someone who is wise and on top of his rational thinking, would never ever see all the road signs as challenge to his right exercising his freedom. The truth is, the road signs are there to help him achieve safety throughout the journey until he reaches the destination.

The same thing applied to our big picture of this life. Do’s and don’ts of Islam are not the obstruction and challenge to the access of his freedom of choice. They come from the Creator who knows better what is good and what is bad in this life. They are there for our safety, peace and harmony.

Someone who has the quality of Taqwa will take his journey like someone who walks through thorny path. He is a person with a full of consciousness about what is good and what is bad around him. He must also have a good self control, like a person who is good in controlling his car steering.

This is the essence of fasting. You learn to exercise your self control.

SELF CONTROL
If someone does not take his lunch because there is nothing to eat, then it causes him tiredness and anger.

But a believer who chooses not to eat while he has everything to do so, for the sake of obeying his Lord, then he is exercising his ability to control himself against some of his desire.

You can eat, but you don’t eat. You can drink, but you learn not to drink, so that you can tell yourself that you are a proactive person. Not a reactive one.

A reactive person will get mad when something stimulates him to anger. He will be sad and out of control when something causes him sadness.

He has no ‘pause’ button. He has no ability to control himself to choose a better reaction. His actions are determined by things around him. He is not the one who controls himself. He is occupied by others. He is under the real occupation of others.

A Muslim is not an effective Muslim if he does not have a control over his own actions. He must be a proactive Muslim. Happy Fasting to All Muslims!

What is Public Relation?

Public Relation (PR) is the practice of managing communication between an organization and its public (ref:Wikipedia).

Basically, this PR department’s job scope revolves around the works of having communication with outside parties or any student bodies within UTP, supervisor of the Residential College, management of UTP, the village committee (ViCom), and also students.

PR department in RCSU has its own job scope:

· Deals with outside party regarding any events involving RCSU

· Cooperates with any other student bodies for event collaboration

· Arranges visits to other universities

· Represents RCSU for any events which requires speaker

· Assists President and Deputy President of RCSU in handling Village Committee

· Deals with Village Committee for any events conducted by them

· The welfare of students in the residential college is the number 1 priority for all RCSU

members, regardless of their department

Historically, Public Relation (PR) department is one of the new departments in RCSU among other departments as it was established on 2008. Recently, PR department has come out with an outstanding motto which is,’ PROFFESIONALISM IN NETWORKING’. Everyone in the PR department specifically, needs to be professional in handling any kind of works relating to the student. The PR members hope that, by emphasizing this motto, RCSU and the students at UTP will be much closer in relationship and communication, locally or internationally.

To enhance the local network among the students in UTP, PR is responsible to monitor the Village Committee (ViCom) for every village. UTP itself comprises of six villages which are Village 1, Village 2, Village 3, Village 4, Village 5, and Old Village. For each village, there is an organization so-called Village Committee (ViCom). The organization of ViCom is designed to be systematic where the organization itself is led by Penghulu and Penghuluwati. Four main departments in RCSU organization are compulsory to be set up in each of the ViCom organization such as Public Relation, Promotion and Publication, Economy and Entrepreneurship, and lastly, Welfare department. This is to make sure that the organization of ViCom which is under RCSU is standardized. Every ViCom for every village must deal and inform us, the PR members in RCSU for any events conducted by them. This is to ensure that all the events organized by them, is to be known by RCSU members themselves. There will be one representative from PR department to be allocated in every ViCom to assist them in managing the village and conducting the events under their village.

Furthermore, in enhancing the quality of professionalism among RCSU members, PR Department has held a program which is called, the Twinning College with other universities. This program is a medium for RCSU of UTP and other student bodies at any other universities, to exchange and share any ideas regarding the issue and matters on residential management. Other than that, the objective of this Twinning College is to create and build a strong relationship among each other. RCSU members should realize the needs to explore the surrounding and the outer world in purpose to enhance our current system in UTP. By sharing session among the representatives from two sides, hopefully the new ideas gained can be implemented at UTP thus enhancing the UTP residential college management.

On 22^nd August of 2009 (1^st Ramadhan of 1430), all RCSU members have visited Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) located at Bangi, Selangor. This visit to UKM is very memorial and beneficial for all the RCSU members to learn something new. For the previous year on 2008, RCSU had made a visit to other university which is Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) of Transkrian. PR department is now on their way to improve the twinning college program by doing some progress to do the International Twinning College Program. Hopefully this first International Twining College is going to be at Bangkok, Thailand the next semester.

By aiding the students’ affairs in every village, PR Department of RCSU has done a money changer system. This system is to help the students at every village to convert their notes to coins for the washing machine. If let say the students do not have coins in term of fifty cents, they cannot wash their clothes by using washing machine provided at every village. To help the students settled this problem, money changer is provided at every village just to convert the money in term of notes to coins. The money changers are directly under the PR department to handle.

No Polystyrene Food Container Will Be Provided

To all UTP students,

Form now onwards, no polystyrene food container will be provided at all cafeterias due to enhancing our Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in UTP. Due to this, the cafeteria only provide paper food container which is biodegradable and environmental friendly. Anyway, the cafeterias have their right to sell the paper food container towards students. Therefore, you are suggested to use your own food container to carry away your own food.

UTP Campus Closed For a Week

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS’s campus was closed from 31st July - 6th August 2009 due to the increasing number of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) among its’ students. During that period, all students were required to leave campus as disinfection works were to be done all over campus, including the hostels.

Thus, UTP students had to return at least one room key, including their padlock keys to their respective Residential Village offices. This is so the workers can gain access into their rooms and wardrobes to disinfect it. Failure to do so result in disciplinary action against students and their padlocks were forced open.

Fortunately, many students complied with the rules set by the management, and their checkout was handled smoothly by Village Supervisors with the help of Residential College Support Unit (RCSU). RCSU members also assisted the management by following the workers to each room during disinfection works to ensure that nothing untoward happen to the students’ belongings. However, the management and RCSU are not responsible for any stolen belongings.

Upon returning, students have to first undergo H1N1 screening before they are permitted to enter the campus. The screening was conducted at Main Hall during office hours and at the main gate for those who arrived after office hours. Students who are declared healthy (body temperature below 37.5°C) are given a ‘Health Screening Card’ which is orange in colour. Students had to present this card at the Residential Village office to obtain their room key. This card must also be carried at all times and students are not permitted to enter the campus without it.

All these strict rules have been imposed by UTP management as a necessary precaution to control H1N1 outbreak among the students. Before the campus was closed, there were already 3 confirmed cases in UTP. We hope that all students realise the gravity of this pandemic and will thus pay more attention to their personal hygiene as a preventive measure.

RCSU Solves Celcom Network Coverage in UTP

The year 2009 has brought with it such a wonderful gift to all UTP students. The phone network coverage for all CELCOM users has been improved drastically. Majority of UTP students are using three types of phone network service provider which are DiGi, CELCOM, as well as MAXIS. However, many students faced problems with the network coverage on campus. This is due to the poor phone coverage in the residential villages, especially at Village 3, Village 4 and Village 5. Most of the residents in those villages do not receive a clear phone coverage that enables them to make phone calls or send a single message. This problem has led to many problematic miscommunications. Some students were forced to go outside of their block just to make a phone call. Therefore, to overcome this problem, Welfare department of Residential College Support Unit of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTPRCSU) has taken some actions. They are:-

· Petition

Petitions have been distributed among a number of UTP students in order to identify the places on campus that were facing this problem. The petitions were also handed out to get the approval and support from the students of UTP for any further actions taken by UTPRCSU.

· Survey

Surveys were also conducted by our department to the students who were staying at the different villages, as well as to the staff of UTP.

· Negotiation with network service provider.

Based on the analysis from the survey and the petition conducted, we have decided to deal directly with the network service provider at the nearest branch from UTP. The negotiation took a few months to go through all the process.

The following is a summary of our negotiation:

Our complaint was responded by CELCOM Malaysia Berhad. They identified the main reason why UTP received poor network coverage which was the coverage from the CELCOM site towards UTP main entrance was being blocked by UTP peak area (Water Tank Area). Then the Field Operation Department of CELCOM Malaysia Berhad, led by Mr Shafia Harikan has taken some actions in order to overcome this problem. CELCOM Malaysia Berhad has agreed to place one receiver tower near UTP to improve the reception of the coverage. The receiver tower has been placed outside of the campus and it is located near the water tank area.

We (UTPRCSU) are having a further discussion with CELCOM Malaysia Berhad on how to make all the network service providers such as DiGi and MAXIS become better. Based on the explanation given by CELCOM’s representative, we have been told that any joint venture with other network service providers can only be implemented after six months, starting from the day CELCOM Malaysia Berhad placed the receiver tower nearby UTP. We are looking forward to make other network coverage better for the benefit of all UTP students.

RCSU Recorrects The Qiblat Direction

On 14^th February 2009, Residential College Support Unit (RCSU) with the assistance from Rakan Masjid Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS has successfully organised “Gerak Gempur Qiblat” in Village 5.

“Gerak Gempur Qiblat” was initiated after RCSU received a complaint from a concerned student that the qiblat direction in Village 5 is incorrect, particularly the female’s block. After consulting the Imam of Masjid An-Nur and doing some research, we have found that the qiblat direction in V5 female block is indeed incorrect.

Therefore, we have pasted the correct qiblat direction on the pantry ceiling of each house. We have also informed the residents of this qiblat correction. Soon, “Gerak Gempur Qiblat” will also be conducted in other villages.
